Special Announcement!

Dearest Members of Good Shepherd,
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who was faithful to the vision of God our Father, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Three weeks ago a printed plan for reopening for in-person church services with Holy Communion for July 25 and 26, 2020 was submitted and approved by the Office of Bishop Martin Field. Our hearts were glad and our spirits were rejoicing. We understood that not everyone would return for Holy Eucharist celebrations, but the hope brought us anticipated joy.
Since then the number of COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the Kansas City Metro area and across the nation. After consultation with the vestry we’ve decided to delay our date for reopening. At the earliest it will be August 1 and 2, if then. This decision grieves us, but agree it’s the prudent and proper at this time. We’re being good stewards of public health of which we can give thanks. So what is next?
On Sunday, July 19th we will once again celebrate Morning Prayer via Facebook Live. Beginning July 26th we will resume Holy Communion Rite II with Communion to Go kits like we did before and after Easter. How and where are kits being made available?
Beginning Wednesday, July 22nd all members are invited to come to Good Shepherd and pick up your safe, consecrated Communion to Go kits in the chapel. Like before, sealed kits may be picked up between 8 am to 8 pm Monday through Saturday by entering the red chapel doors. You are required to sign your name for tracking. A table will be available for you to return used kits for cleaning and reuse. Thank you for not entering the glass foyer doors or the church office.

During the televised service you may partake of the elements from the comfort of your home. Many have let me know how much they’ve missed Holy Communion. I hope this enriches your spiritual life and worshiping experience.
In addition, lay members of Good Shepherd will begin officiating Noonday Prayer and Compline beginning this Friday, July 17 at Noon and 8:00 PM. A special Thank You to Doris, Nancy, and Marie. If you wish to lead one of these services let me know.
Feel free to contact me with any questions, inspirations, insights and guidance in the coming days.
Faithfully yours,
